Powerdrill – Bushwhack/Uzumaki

Steel City Power Violence (SCPV) returns in September as Sheffield punks Powerdrill release their latest double A side – Uzumaki and Bushwhack – through MUZAI Records.

Sticking to a digital model once again, the two singles will appear on the direct-to-customer platform Bandcamp first, followed by a full rollout on all remaining digital platforms throughout October.

Uzumaki and Bushwhack come almost half a year since the release of their last two singles, Victim Instigator and Powder Prophet, but expand on the EDM elements Powerdrill have started to include within their works.

Could it be considered cybergrind, like their current label-mates Still 101? The breakbeat introduction to Uzumaki, named after the cult work by Japanese manga artist Junji Ito, does offer credence to Powerdrill moving in that direction.

But the once-again blunt force trauma of Bushwhack, featuring guest vocals from another MUZAI artist, Baleful95, highlights that Powerdrill are happy traversing the different, transgressive expressions that the hardcore punk landscape recognizes.

Who are Powerdrill?

Sheffield, South Yorkshire group Powerdrill formed during the lockdown of 2020 from the longstanding friendship and musical partnership of Jak and Liam. They recorded the debut EP Knife Culture on a laptop on the night the first lockdown was announced.

After a while, a mutual friend introduced Jak and Liam to Alastair who joined the project as full-time drummer and producer for the band. Noah was the final member to join, jumping straight in at the deep end.

And thus, Powerdrill is manifested.
